Our Newest Art Excursion to Seattle for Impressionism Exhibit and Dale Chihuly Glass Art. See the largest exhibit of Impressionism ever shown in the Northwest featuring sixty-eight paintings from European museums and private collections. To our knowledge, the majority of these works are gems that have never before been part of blockbuster exhibitions (such as those at the Art Institute of Chicago). This is a great excuse to enjoy a weekend of art experiences in Seattle--3the Emerald City.2 Rather than focusing on the career of one artist, this exhibition deals with the entire movement by bringing together wonderful works by such notables as Monet (8 works), Renoir (8), Degas (5), Van Gogh (3), Pissarro (8), Gauguin (5), Manet (2), and Cezanne (4). It also includes equally outstanding works by other famous impressionists that will be a real treat to see: including Berthe Morisot (2 works), Mary Cassatt (2), Eva Gonzalez (1), Gustave Caillebotte (2), and Alfred Sisley (7).
Your Itinerary
Day 1:
Arrive in Seattle about noon. In the early afternoon, join a city tour that includes highlights of Seattle1s famous architecture and sights (including the Space Needle). The tour will allow us an extended stop off at the Frye Art Museum. The Frye houses a wonderful collection featuring world-class German, French and American paintings from the 19th century in a wonderful new building. Our tour will also introduce you to the fine art of glass blowing, one of the hottest (no pun intended) artforms sought by museums today. Come face-to-face with glass sculpture by internationally-famous artist Dale Chihuly. (Chihuly is the first artist to be named a National Treasure by the President of the U.S.) Free time this evening, back at the hotel by 6 p.m.
Day 2:
After breakfast, travel by coach to Volunteer Park. This park includes the Seattle Asian Art Museum, a large, highly-rated collection of Asian and Indian artworks, including screens, scrolls, netsuke, sculpture and painting. Michelle and Jeff will provide a tour of several collections at this outstanding museum. Nearby in the park is the Seattle Conservatory with changing displays of orchids and other plants and flowers. This beautiful park also offers tremendous views of Seattle in a relaxed setting. Back at the hotel in the afternoon, Michelle and Jeff will provide a slide-based introduction to the Impressionism exhibition.
